You have to be in an alliance to be a banker.

A banker is a job in some alliances to store and transfer resources among the alliance members. This is to protect resources from getting looted when other users attack. Usually, the member is under a long term shield of thirty days or more. The banker can be useful in instructing newer members in how to upgrade their bases, since he holds the resources needed. The larger alliances need to have multiple bankers to handle all of the requests and gifts. Bankers are now mostly dead, due to much lower resource requirements for everything.
